Will Christians Who Divorce Go to Hell After This Life?
By Dr, Lindy S, Diffenbaugh, DD
In The Face of Ongoing Conflict, Should Christians Divorce?
To answer the question whether or not Christians who divorce go to hell after they die, I can say that there is a possibility that some of them may go to hell after this life, and in fact some may go to Heaven. Lest I confuse you, let me clarify that statement.
When I say that some of these who are divorced, may go to Hell, the surely will. But when they are sent straight to Hell after their death, it most likely will not be because they were divorced. I say that because divorce is not a mortal sin! In fact, if they do go to Hell, it will be because they committed other horrific sins, such as murder, rape, child abuse, and/or a ruthless force of ongoing domestic violence, etc. etc. etc.
What Did Christ Say Was the Only Unpardonable Sin?
In three of the four Gospels in the New Testament, Christ spoke on the forgiveness of sins. In Matthew Chapter 12, Mark Chapter 3 and Luke 12, He says, “Therefore I tell you every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven them. But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven.”
In other words, Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit IS THE ONLY SIN IN THE BIBLE THAT CARRIES THE STATUS OF AN AUTOMATIC UNPARDONABLE SIN!
Without questioning the Lord’s inditement on the “Unpardonable Sin”, I will add that in Matthew 18:6 Jesus proclaims that, “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea!”
Back to the Subject of Marital Discord
Given the above information regarding Christ’s view on the issue of Divorce, it is clear that Divorce is not a Mortal Sin that would release someone into the Flames of Hellfire after this life is over.
It is certainly important to understand that the marital union between Man and Wife is sacred unto the Lord. To Him, it is a representation of the love that He carries for the Church, which is also known as the Bride of Christ!
So yes, our Lord certainly loves and cherishes His “Bride,” and He works with Her to strengthen Her grace, goodness, and authority on this earth.
(In case you do not know, when the Word of God speaks of the “Bride” of Christ, it is an “all-inclusive term” that covers both the Male and Female genders!)
In closing this message, I pray that you will study and consider the depth of the message and how it may apply to your life and marital situation.
